"The opportunity to get deeply involved in the movie plot, leading beyond already established standards was the unprecedented experience for me. The soundtrack itself contributes to many parallel aesthetical layers, and derives from various musical genres - from jazz of '50s and '60s, to rock and classics. The full sounding soundtrack reveals my personal approach to the music, athough it is not directly related to the place and time of film action. It serves as an additional artistic mean freeing the plot from the socialistic reality historical associations. The exceptional charm of the movie comes from the fact it breaks down the rules of realism in the middle of the plot and twists to a sophisticated abstraction. It is absolutely fantastic to deal with such freedom and variety of soundscapes. (...) The film recalls the atmospere of classic 'jazz' movies. For me it was the opportunity to explore my jazz vocabulary and personal experience as a jazz pianist - the kind of precious gift, which seem more valuable compared to the almost complete lack of jazz music in the movies nowadays. With this particular work we linked to the great heritage of Polish Film School drawing from jazz musical idiom for many years in the past.."
Włodek Pawlik
"The film has an unusual charm of Film Noir, setting the plot in socialistic landscape of the Warsaw in '50s. This particular stylistic mean makes the movie extraordinary bold and uncomproming among similar productions. Despite of the quite distant times of the action it brings the fresh and sharp view of those difficult reality induced by fearsome communistic monarchy."
Artur Cichmiński, Stopklatka.pl (polish film portal), 15-09-2009
"I was introduced to Włodek Pawlik by Jurek Kapuściński. I went to his premiere concert of "Grand Piano". The guy is much appreciated in America than he is in Poland...he wrote the soundtrack to the Greenaway movie...He is a genius...Włodek joined the working team at the initial stage of film editing with great synergy. We understood each other perfectly. He has a great sense of freedom and an unlimited imagination which let him create the music beyond any schematic, time and convention, bringing our work a higher level."
Borys Lankosz - director of "Reverse"

"The element we cannot ignore in Greenaway's film is the music. W.Pawlik created really charming main theme I fell in love with. It could be the best for spectators to close the eyes, listen to the melody and let it's charm catch their hearts. It is quite astonishing, as we usually find Greenaway's images the most memorable."

"This is a story of the old lady who is the owner of old wooden residence, once beatiful now devastated. After many years her dream becomes reality - she gets rid of last resident, and becomes a master of the house. Unfortunately, the wonderful moment does not last very long and quickly becomes disappointing. Nothing is as it should be. Her son doesn't want to repair the house, nor move in with his family. He tries to sell the residence secretly to a rich neighbour. Aniela (the main character) is not melancholy nor complaining - for the last time in her life she takes up a challenge without any hesitation."
